Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan) is a young Irish woman who decides to leave her mother behind and immigrate to the United States, specifically New York, in search of better opportunities. Initially, she struggles with homesickness, but her love affair with Tony (Emory Cohen) helps her forget everything. However, Eilis must return to Ireland, where she meets Jim (Domhnall Gleeson), who manages to captivate her. Eilis finds herself torn between two countries, two very different lifestyles, and two loves.
