Dr Robert Ledgard (Antonio Banderas), a plastic surgeon, works tirelessly in his laboratory at home for twelve years to create a new skin after his wife miraculously survives a car accident but is left with severe burns. Using a mixture of pig and human blood, he successfully produces a synthetic skin. However, tragedy strikes again when his wife commits suicide after seeing her burnt body, leaving their young daughter traumatized. Dr Ledgard's obsession grows and he becomes almost like Dr Frankenstein, expanding his experiments.

Based on the 2005 novel "Tarantula" by French crime writer Thierry Jonquet, this thriller follows the story of a mentally unstable plastic surgeon seeking revenge against a man who raped his daughter. Through his research on cells, he manages to create a new human skin. This film, "The Skin That I Live In," reunites director and Antonio Banderas after 20 years and delves into the surgeon's twisted obsessions.
